Big Freedia, also known as the Queen of Bounce, is perhaps the biggest representative of bounce music outside of her New Orleans hometown. Her musical career dates back to 1999 when she released her first single “An Ha, Oh Yeah.” Soon after, she was playing at clubs and music venues all over NOLA. In 2003, she released her first album Queen Diva. Her big national debut wasn’t until 2010 when she released the EP on Scion A/V presents: Big Freedia with hits such as ‘Excuse’ and ‘Almost Famous’. Some of her notable singles include ‘Gin in My System’ and ‘Azz Everywhere’. Her latest album, Just Be Free came out earlier this year, attracting an even broader audience while maintaining true to her roots of catchy, repetitive beats. She is currently working on a highly anticipated LP that is sure to keep everyone shaking it and sweating on the dance floor.
Big Freedia, Queen Diva is not afraid to push her boundaries. She appeared in HBO’s series ‘Treme’ as herself and created her own reality TV show on Fuse. Her show she filmed during her last performance atMezzanine, for the Queen Diva’s Birthday celebration. This year, she went even further out her limits and released the Big Freedia Booty Battle video game.
